殖民地时期，英属新英格兰出口及转运贸易的日益繁荣，形成长期的市场有效需求，推动该地区经济分工的发展，在各个殖民地之间，以及单个殖民地内部区域之间，都形成了明显的经济分工。在总体上，各个殖民地陆续以直接或间接的方式参与进大西洋贸易体系。而且，殖民地之间的区际贸易快速增长。因此，新英格兰作为一个统一的地区市场逐步成熟，地区分工关系趋于稳定。

A Preliminary Analysis of Regional Economic Division of British New England in the Atlantic Trade System

Export economy and tradesin New England colonies were becoming prosperity. A long-term effective marketdemand promoted the development of economy in this regional division of labor, between all of its colonies, as well as a single colony, even between inner region, had formed the obvious economic division of labor. In general, all New England colonies were either directly or indirectly involved in the Atlantic trade system. And there was a rapid increase of interregional trade between different colonies. Therefore, New England as a unified market economy gradually matured and the regional division of labor relations became stable. Some towns played a central role in the regional economic development.
