A Historical Study of Japan’s Industrial Development Strategy: From the Perspective of Monetary Institution

One of the key features of developmental state like Japan is the selective support of strategic industries by the government according to the principle of competitive advantage as a means to achieve economic catch-up and development.This article is a historical study of Japan's industrial development strategy from the Meiji Restoration to the beginning of the Great Depression.Examining from the perspective of monetary institution,it provides new empirical evidence in understanding the historical origin of Japan's developmental state.
