The Reconstruction of the Black's Ethnic Consciousness:Analyses of Toni Morrison's Novels

Toni Morrison is a black woman writer with strong political consciousness. She emphasizes works must have political significance which is the power of works, and without it the works is spoiled. Therefore, while creating novels, Morrison consciously describes the past and present living conditions of the Afro-Americans in her texts to show the black's lives distorted and dissimilated by the colonial system and racial discrimination. However, Morrison is not satisfied with the exposure of the unfairness and unjustness of social system. She tries to revise the historical memory and to cure the black people's inner trauma. Moreover, she appeals to the black to seek the lost cultural root and reconstruct their ethnic consciousness. At the same time, as a woman writer, Morrison closely connects the course of black women's self-seeking with the reconstruction of the black ethnic consciousness to reveal the trend of their mutual promotion.
