Professor Meng Wentong is an outstanding historian and scholar of Jing Xue in modern China whose academic studies are characterized by broadness, profundity and brilliant achievements. According to Collection of Meng Wentong, he achieves a lot in the study of Song history as well. He applies the fruits and methods in the study of Jing Xue to historical studies, makes a thorough research of Li Xue, combines the study of philosophy with that of history, states clearly the overall reform in the transitional period between the end of Tang and the beginning of Song Dynasty, expounds deeply Xifeng Reform and commodity economy in the Song Dynasty, devotes to framing a new system of the study of Song history, and succeeds in fostering personnel of historical study.
