| Abstract: | Dang Kou Zhi(Suppression of the Rebellion), with an approach opposite to that of Shui Hu Zhuan (Outlaws of the Marsh), has generally been viewed as a reactionary work. This article, starting with an analysis of the image of Chen Xizhen, one of its characters, explores the complementarity of Confucianism and Taoism in terms of its orientation of cultural values, and subsequently investigates the motive for this approach, aiming at providing an unbiased and objective review of this literary work. |
