A Comparative Study of the Narrative Strategies between Bentao and Catcher in the Rye

The reluctance to depart with the most beautiful,mysterious and essential youth is the common narrative strategy adopted both in J.D.Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye and in Liu Yiran’s Bentao(Escaper).Compared with implicit expression of motifs in the former,the latter has a strong realistic pertinence and cultural critique,which narrows the connotation of the novel and lowers the adequacy of theme presentation.Those different aesthetic pursuits are result of the authors’ different utterance on youth memories: Salinger is persistently ready to catch in "the rye" while Liu Yiran is keen on re-experiencing the enthusiasm and innocence of youth.
