关于理雅各英译中国古经的研究综述--兼论跨学科研究翻译的必要性

英国汉学家、传教士理雅各率先系统地翻译了中国古代经典的主体部分,其人其书长期以来是海内外历史学者、宗教哲学学者与语言学者关注的焦点所在.本文通过综述学者对理雅各译本的研究状况,提出不同学科的研究成果尽管各见所长,也分别受到学科自身的限制.不少历史学者以及宗教哲学学者因受外语的限制而未能深入分析译出语或译入语内在的机制,也未能并构架出分析译文语言风格的完整理论体系;语言学者则因背景知识和原始资料的缺乏以及运用纯语言学的研究范式而未能深入分析历史背景或哲学理念对翻译的具体影响.因此,文章呼吁翻译研究应借鉴跨学科的研究方法.

Studies on James Legge's English Translation of Traditional Chinese Classics and Reflections on the Necessity of the Interdisciplinary Approach in Translation Studies

On the basis of a general survey of the worldwide studies on the Scottish missionary sinologist James Legge's translation of traditional Chinese classics, it is pointed out in the article that although the publications concerned now available are characterized by the strong points of different disciplines respectively, they are sometimes spoilt by the limited research range of these academic fields. More often than not, historians and researchers of philosophy and religion have been unable to probe deep linguistically into the translated texts while linguists have failed to analyze translations from the perspectives of history, philosophy or religion. This kind of research may be incomplete by nature and inevitably results in less convincing conclusions. Therefore, the interdisciplinary approach is highly necessary in translation research.
