华岗所一贯遵奉和提倡的历史观即马克思主义和毛泽东思想的精神核心———无产阶级政党的唯物史观,而不仅仅是一种学术思想。建国初期山东大学文史研究的蓬勃开展,是与当时新民主主义革命向社会主义革命转变时期意识形态领域的马克思主义、毛泽东思想传播和新的世界观、科学观的建立以及教学科研的理论需要密不可分的。从新山大创办的第一天起,华岗就把大学的人文社会科学研究和自然科学研究看作是新中国建设不可或缺的两个方面,他的办学理念是以社会历史和国家的发展需要为准绳的。

Hua Gang, a Brilliant Banner of Cultural and Educational Front of New China

The historical outlook that Hua Gang advocated and adhered to is the spiritual core of Marxism and Mao Zedong Thought, i.e. historical materialism of a proletarian party. It is not merely an academic ideology. The flourish of literary and historical research at Shandong University during the initial postliberation period was indispensable to the then establishment of Marxist ideology and to the theoretical needs of teaching and research. Ever since the founding of the new Shandong University, Hua Gang had viewed social sciences and natural sciences as two inseparable aspects for the construction of new China. His views on educational administration took society, history and national development as the yardstick.
