Along with more important role the sea plays in the development of human civilization, the study of maritime civilization has become a new and important branch in humanities and social science. It brings about studies in various fields and the conceptions used in different circles are far from unanimous, It is, therefore, necessary to bring them gradually to conformity so as to help the overlap, permeation and composition of various subjects. Some concepts, such as maritime region, maritime economy, maritime community and maritime culture in particular, should be clearly defined as soon as possible.
