On the Pictographic Symbols of Chinese Phonograms and the Traditional Concept of Category

This paper discusses about the pictographic symbols that indicate a general category of meanings of the ancient Chinese characters.The traditional concept of category,which is the production of the thinking way of the Chinese,pays attention to treat things integrated and stresses on the relationship among them.Imitating objects to compare species and reasoning of species to link their similarities are the two basic means of it.As the expression of the symbols,the traditional concept of category embodies the ancient's recognition on the world of both substance and spirit.The formation of the symbol and the foundation of its system are the rejection of the traditional concept of category in the field of Chinese characters.
