The reception history of a masterpiece is determined,on the one hand,by the author's intention and ,on the other,by such factors as readers' aesthetics,values,prejudice,and financial perspective.The Jewish,for instance,has long been the victim of irony in literary history,in which The Merchant of Venice is a good example.This view of the Shakespeare's play deserves our attention and reconsideration.
