Foregrounding, the typical feature of literary language, can reflect the difference in form and function between literary language and non-literary language. Holding that different strategies should be adopted in translating different types of text, the paper puts forward that poetic strategy should be employed in language choice in literary translation. Poetic strategy implies that translators should choose linguistic forms with foregrounding, and that the foregrounding should conform to the target linguistic convention and literary system.
