Either from the perspective of history of aesthetics or from the history of art, the relation between aesthetics and art has long remained close. However, the dramatic change of contemporary art leads to a path of anti-aesthetics. Both conceptual art and critical art take as their responsibility the subversion of the autonomy of art, which has broken the basic relation between art and beauty. Yet, since 1990 some art critics have begun to call for a return to aesthetics, which has led to the confrontation between anti-aesthetics and the return to aesthetics among contemporary art critics.
