Hesse's Novels and Their Creative Absorption of the Chinese Culture

Hermann Hesse was one of the rarest writers in the west who were well acquainted with the Chinese ideology and culture.His works have extensive connections with the Chinese culture.This paper analyzes such connections from the perspectives of subject matter adaptation,the use of Chinese images and symbolic devices,Chinese philosophy and figures,thematic amalgamation and the Oriental fable features of his few major works.Finally,this paper probes into the allround absorption and the transcending of the Chinese culture.
