由于与环境和生计存在着密切关系,传统知识在以生物多样性保护为核心的环境保护中和可持续生计发展进程中都有着重要的作用和地位,但在目前很多环保和发展领域的活动中,传统知识却处于很尴尬的处境:首先,传统知识正在迅速地消失;其次,传统知识依然没有被社会主流充分认识并重视;第三,随着生物资源的利用和生物技术的发展,传统知识往往被"剽窃"利用,传统知识的拥有者也无法从中获益。
