A General Comment on the Effect of Environmental Factors on First Language Acquisition

Among many factors influencing language acquisition, environmental factors are the essential ones. Studies of feral and the isolated children indicate that gross environmental neglect or abuse may retard language acquisition, which proves that language input is the prerequisite of normal language development. And studies according to correlational and experimenyal aproach show that language development is only partialy affected by motherese. The question whether the critical period exists or not concerns the discussion about the optimal period for language input.
