Culture Teaching and Foreign Language Learning

Since the end of the twentieth century, many scholars in language teaching and research have recognized that socio-linguistic competence is closely linked with culture. Culture, a most important part of foreign language teaching, should also be taught. This paper mainly discusses the importance and necessity of cultural teaching and background knowledge building, which will improve the learners' cultural awareness and competence, and socio-linguistic competence as well.
