The Construction of the Post-traffic and the Administration of Supporting Service in the Qin and Han Dynasties

During the Qin and Han Dynasties, the construction of general traffic line was organized by central government; the building and maintenance of the regional roads, bridges and post-stations were undertaken by local governments. Because of the different status of travelers and their Zhuan-Xin (a kind of credential), their treatments such as diet, accommodation and transport facilities offered by the post stations were different. The widespread post-stations and the strict and perfect administrative institutions ensured the effective operation of the overall post system.
