近年来,内蒙古地区频发的沙尘暴和草场沙化引起了举国关注。国家和地方政府为此斥巨资治理,同时国内的游牧文化研究也出现了生态学上的转向。学界目前认识到:草原是一个完整的生态系统,人(观念和制度)—草场—牲畜是草原生计不可分割且需要相互平衡的三要素。其中任何一个要素变动,都会对系统整体产生影响,因此对草原生态的治理也应该贯彻整体论。今日内蒙古草原生态的变化只是问题的表征,它显示出草原生态的三要素构成的稳定框架或共存关系正在被打破。
