| Abstract: | This article adopts a semantic approach to English euphemism. It explores the semantic processes by means of which English euphemisms are formed, the internal mechanism governing the use of English euphemism, i.e. "associative engineering" to show how different types of meaning fit into the total composite effect of linguistic communication, and discusses the semantic changes caused by "associative engineering". |
