双关语的言内意义及其翻译

双关语一般被认为是不可译的,但不可译性中又包含有相对的可译性.在双关语的翻译中,译者首先要考虑的是其言内意义的保留,保留言内意义就是保留双关形式.其次可以在保留原文修辞效果和语篇完整的条件下,对原文双关语的所指意义和语用意义进行取舍,甚至创造一个全新的双关语来取代它.如果言内意义无法保留,则要用其它的修辞手法对其进行补偿,常见的有音韵、比喻、仿拟及多种修辞格的运用.

On Translation of the Linguistic Meaning of Puns

The embodiment of the linguistic meaning should be first taken into consideration as to the translation of puns. The alternative is to select between the referential meaning and pragmatic meaning of puns or to create a pun to replace the original one. The compensation of the linguistic meaning by means of other rhetoric devices will be adopted if the above attempt fails. The most commonly employed are rhyme,metaphor,parody,and comprehensive use of rhetorical devices.
