The Song Dynasty's Policy to the Guiming People of Southwest Ethnic Minority

The Guiming people was originally an ethnic minority in a southwestern vassal state, under the luring and winning-over policy of the Song Dynasty, they came over and pledged allegiance. The ruling class, because of the need of ruling in the Song Dynasty, offered all sorts of munificent treatment to the Guiming people. The Song Dynasty won over the guiming people by various kinds of munificent condition; on the other hand, it implemented the policy of strict controlling and supervising the Guiming people. The dual policy played an important part of the guiding principle of the Song Dynasty in opening up the border regions and strengthening the national defense. We can learn from it the political thought that the ruling class of the Song Dynasty dealt with minority nationalities by contact and maintenance.
