Structuralism and Structuralist Poetics

Structuralism is a methodology which seeks the unification of all the sciences into a new system of belief. The philosophical sources of structuralism can be traced back to Vicao and Kant. Ferdinand de Saussure's structuralist linguistics stimulates a thriving structuralist movement in the 20th century Western world and repudiates the old notion of meaning which empiricism holds so that it creates for modern stylistics and structuralist poetics a framework of practical criticism. From the theories of Charles Bally, Roman Jakobson, Michael Riffaterre and Jonathan Culler, we see that structuralist poetics surmounts its limitations in the early stages and advances towards its maturity.
