Philosophy as a Branch of Science: Answer to What is Philosophy

What is philosophy is not only a difficult meta-philosophical question, but also is the question that every philosophical researcher has to answer. Many philosophers and scholars supply the definitions of philosophy from their standpoints, but most of the definitions do not portray the essential characteristics of philosophy. In the process of historical development of philosophy, major changes have taken place in the object of philosophical research, but research method has no fundamental change. What is more, the reasoning processes are more complex and argument structures are more exquisite. With the subdividing of disciplines and the widespread application of the scientific method, philosophy has become the concrete and special branch of science. According to the scientificity, philosophy should have different research objects, but research method must be scientific and normative, language expression must be clarified. According to thespecificity, objects of philosophy are open in other words, every outstanding problem could be regarded as object of philosophy. As a science, Philosophy is different from natural science, but will establish close relationships with natural science.
