在众多的辞书和文学教科书中 ,文学通常被理解为一种社会现象或活动 ,理解为一种艺术样式——语言艺术。文学不应被当作一个学科或学科门类的名称。以文学作为研究对象的学科 ,应正名为文学学。经过约一个半世纪的发展 ,文学学已经成为包含众多分支学科、边缘分支学科的学科群组。今后 ,文学学的学科体系将进一步得以充实 ,其主流演进态势仍是研究对象的细化和学科之间的交融

On the science of literature

Literature, in many dictionaries and textbooks, is generally defined as a kind of social phenomenon or activity as well as a form of art-a linguistic art. It should not be regarded as a discipline nor as a branch of a discipline but should be renamed as the science of literature because of its research nature. With one and half centuries' development, the science of literature has evolved into a group of disciplines, including a lot of branch disciplines and frontier branch disciplines. From now on, the discipline system of the science of literature will be further solidified, and its main evolution situation will still be towards the direction of fining the research objects and mingling the branch disciplines.
