西方教会在潮汕的医疗慈善活动与影响

晚清民国时期(1840-1949),西方天主教修会和新教差会派遣的传教士有不少进入潮汕。为沟通与民众的情感,最大限度消除传教障碍,他们在本地创办了十数所医疗慈善机构,并积极开展相关工作:收治各种病患者、培养专门人才及进行赈灾活动等。这些活动不仅有效地打开了基督教在潮汕传播的大门,且改变了本地缺医少药的局面,在一定程度上消除和缓解了人民的痛苦,促进了本地医疗慈善事业的发展,有积极的社会影响。
