Wilderness Protection and Use Limits in America

This paper introduces briefly the concept of the wilderness as well as the history of wilderness protection and development in America. And the management measures of use limits are discussed in the paper. Wilderness can provide recreational opportunities for solitude, freedom, or enjoying natural scenery and beauty, thus wilderness faces the problems of over-crowding and over-use. While regulation and restriction of wilderness use are common management tools to reduce the wilderness impact, in which include requiring permits, restricting the total number of people and type of use, limiting group size and length of stay.
