| 摘 要： | 文章重新解读了美国浪漫主义时期著名作家霍桑的代表作《红字》中一贯被看做反面人物的罗杰·齐灵渥斯.通过对这一悲剧性人物双重性格的分析,揭示他身上鲜为人知的优秀品质:尽职尽责的丈夫、忠于职守的医生,同时也是追慕真理的科学家、众人眼里的仁者.在此基础上,指出小说主题的多重性以及霍桑思想的含混性.

| Abstract: | The Scarlet Letter is the masterpiece of Hawthorne,a famous American writer in the romantic period.The present article has reinterpreted Roger Chillingworth,who has been commonly regarded as a negative character in the novel.Through analyzing the double character of this tragic man,the article has revealed the rarely-known fine qualities of Chillingworth,such as a responsible husband,devoted doctor and industrious scientist.Based upon the above analysis,the article has pointed out the many-faceted thematic concerns of the novel and the ambiguity of Hawthorne's thoughts. |
