儒家文化精神作为中华民族精神的主要组成部分，对中国社会历史的发展起过积极的作用。在21世纪中国现代社会的发展过程中，儒家文化精神的整体主义、以人为本、普遍和谐、创新自强、重视教育和讲义求利等基本精神，对培养现代人注重社会利益、关心他人需求、保持人与自然以及社会之间的和谐、努力拼搏进取、重视人才教育和树立正确的义利观等思想理念和行为方式，仍然具有正面效应和积极作用。经过认真的发掘、研究、改造和创新，儒家文化在今天继续充满了生机和活力，为弘扬和培育优秀的中华民族精神做出了独特的贡献，并可以为社会主义现代化建设服务。

The Spirit of Confucian Culture and the Development of Modern Society

As a main component of Chinese ethos, the spirit of Confucian culture has played an active part in the historical development of Chinese society. In the course of China’s development of modern society in the 21st century, the ideological concepts and behavioral modes of the spirit—collectivism, humanism, ubiquitousharmoniousness, innovationand self-confidence, mstressing education, weighing justice over material benefits—still have great positive effects on and active functions in helping modern people to emphasize social benefits, care for other’s demands, keep a harmonious relationship between man and nature and among societies as well, strive forward and have enterprise, emphasize talents’ education, and cultivate the right concept of justice and benefit. The paper holds that the spirit of Confucian culture should be seriously explored, studied, reformed, and innovated so that the spirit can be activated and make more contribution to carrying forward and spreading the Chinese ethos and better serve China’s socialist modernization construction.
