A Gestalt Explanation to the Translation of A Titleless Poem

When translating a poem, it is very important to read between the lines to get the ＂unsaid meaning＂ hiding behind the words, since the implication of a poem is where the beauty of it lies in. ＂Any form or shape is no simple combination of parts＂ is the principle Gestalt psychology maintains, and also should be the principle poetry translators accord to. Through the comparative analysis of the three translation versions of Li Shangyin＇ poem - A Titleless Poem, this paper aims to discuss the contribution this Gestalt principle makes in poetry translation.
