论英语中颜色词的意译

在各种不同的语言中,颜色词是指用来描述不同事物颜色的单词。当这类词语表示颜色本身或含有相同的含义时,可直译。但由于不同的文化背景和语言背景,颜色词在英语和汉语中会分别表示不同的象征性意义,可意译。通过对这些颜色词的引申含义的对比来介绍它们在英汉两种语言中不同的翻译方法。

Free translation of the color words.

Color terms are the ones which describe the colors of different objects in languages. This kind of words are various and useful,calling for our great care in translation. The color terms can be translated literally when they indicate true colors or have the same connotative meanings. However, for every nation has its own culture and language background, when they have different symbolic meanings in English and Chinese, they have to be translated freely. This paper aims at introducing some means of translation of color words through comparing their original and connotative meanings in the two languages.
