Overview of the Western Research on the Relationship between the Violence and Religion

The changes of international political situation have been affecting the western academic researches on the question of Violence and Religion since 1950s, which mainly focused on the relationship between religion and violence. On analyzing the structural violence of colonialism，the communal violence conflict between ethnic groups, the collective violence in contentious politics, and the extremist violence of terrorism, scholars took full account of religion. Western academia set specific academic context on questions of the category definition of Violence and Religion and the relationship determination of both. The broadness of concept definitions makes the extensions of Violence and Religion very vague. On the other hand, it provides political and power frameworks and backgrounds for studying violence and religion．
