| Abstract: | On the basis of investigation, the paper sums up the characteristics and trends of the irregularity and confusion in the public use of Chinese characters in cities. It also analyzes its social and psychological sources and the harm it has done. The paper also inquires into the functions and principles of public use of Chinese characters, analyzes the inevitable trend in the standardization of Chinese characters, and proposes comprehensive measures for eliminating the irregularity and confusion. |
