First, early Song poetical notes inherited the form of story telling, bearing similarities in format/style and narrative typology. Second, the notes gradually deviated from the form of story toward factual research, thematic commentary and meaning interpretation. The relationship between early Song poetical notes and Tang dynasty poetical story reflects the incline of the latter toward academic learning.
