| Abstract: | Julien, the protagonist of The Red and the Black, was unwilling to be mediocre in the French Restoration Period so that he made every attempt to climb up in the social ladder toward the top. After the twists and turns, he finally woke up and broke away from the upper class. Julien＇s life experience well embodied the philo- sophical law of negation of negation. |
