From World City and Global City to World-famous City： A Theoretical Perspective

World city and global city is a pair of both connected and different terms. World city focuses on the world＇s top cities since the first half of the 20th century while global city concentrates those of the later half, specially their functions and roles during the globalization process. The concepts of famous Chinese cities and world-famous cities promoted by contemporary Chinese scholars consider the quality and characteristic of a city, study those outstanding ones with special features and status worldwide. It is necessary to integrate various resources of famous cities by determining the right theme for the right city, and build new world famous cities with a global perspective.
