黄世仲的小说理论及其在中国近代小说理论史上的地位

黄世仲是近代一位资产阶级革命宣传家和文学家。他一　生写了长短十六部小说，又与其兄主办《中外小说林》（香港）等文学杂志，并在刊物上发　表了许多理论文章。他对小说在社会变革中的地位与作用、小说文体的特点、古典小说的继　承与批判、翻译与创作的关系等作了系统的论述，有自己的理论特色。黄世仲提出小说创作　要为当前的资产阶级民主革命服务，在当时的历史语境中是正确的；他主张继承古典小说的　现实主义批判精神，重视学习其艺术经验，并提出正确区分古代言情小说中淫书与艳情的标　准，指出古代小说中鬼神迷信的危害，对推动当时的小说创作具有针贬性、指导性和实践意　义，在近代小说理论史上有一定的地位。

The Novelistic Theory of Huang Shi-zhong and its Position in the History of Chinese modern Novelistic Theory

Huang Shi-zhong was a bourgeois revolutionary propag andist and litterateur. He wrote 16 novels, fronted for Chinese and foreign nove listic forest with his brother and published many theoretical papers in his whol e life. He discoursed upon novelistic position and function in society transform ation, the character of novelistic style, the inheritance and animadversion on c lassical novels and the relation between translation and creation. It is right i n that time to point out that novelistic creation should serve for bourgeois dem ocratic revolution. He claimed to inherit the realistic spirit and artistic expe rience of ancient novels and brought forward the standard to distinguish between obscene novel and romantic novel and the harm of superstitious novel, which pro moted the novelistic creation in that time and gained its position in the histor y of novelistic theory.
