A Historical Outline of Confucianism-Christianity Polemic During the Ming-Qing Transitional Period

During the late Ming dynasty and early Qing dynasty, when the Christian missionarics were busy Spreading their doctrines in China there aroes the so-called "Polemic of Nomenclature and Rites". Out of their inherent conflicts in cultural views and practial interests it was inevitiable that some disputes would arise between the Roman Catholic Church and the Chinese empire. Yet the polemic of nomenclature and rites was a rare historical encounter during which the Chinese and Western idcologies and cultures debated on an equal footing.
