| Abstract: | During the reign of Emperor Tongzhi,Xinjiang was in riot. The local officials intended to borrowRussian troop to help put down rebellion and, meanwhile,Qing court worried about its sequent troubles,thinking such an act was not a self-reinforcing measure as a result of weak Xinjiang troops and lack ofconditions required to help suppress rebellion with borrowed troops. Therefore,the move failed as no venturewas taken. [ |
