| Abstract: | The phonetic signs in the pictophonetic characters arm with the phonetic-indicating function . It looks like the same without any change. In fact, there are still some topics need to be further discussed in this field. This paper will analyse the origin and attributes of the phonetic-indicating function according to the earliest appearance and the process of their evolution. Then it will discuss the causes of consistency concerning the phonetic signs and pictophonetic characters in Modern Chinese. |
