因相关汉文史料缺乏,国内学术界对美国基督会巴塘传教点传教士史德文介入1917～1918年康藏纠纷了解甚少.文章利用国内研究者几乎未曾用过的<史德文传记>等英文资料,结合其他文献资料,发现一件重要史实:即史德文促成了边军驻巴塘分统刘赞廷与藏方营官色新巴于江卡议和,其后又赴昌都治疗汉藏伤兵,这意味着此次康藏纠纷中的康藏合谈始于史德文,他为弥合康藏关系起了一定作用.了解这一史实有助于全面深入地认识此次康藏纠纷以及传教士在康区的活动.

On the Activities and Roles of American Missionary Shelton During the 1917--1918 Conflict between Kham and Tibet
