A Womanist Understanding of By the Light of My Father's Smile

African - American women literature and critique is the new trend in the field of the contemporary western literature and critique. The black women writers and critics write in the light of their own experiences and experiments, criticizing the race, class and gender discrimination. By the Light of My Father' s Smile is another great work written by Alice Walker. It relates the story of a young black woman who is in search of her lost love and her identity. This paper, from the point of "This scandalous prayer of a book", analyses how Robinson exerts his patriarchal power on behalf of father' s love, and how his soul manages to reconcile with that of his elder daughter. And last the paper comes to the key understanding of Walker' s womanism.
