信于原文是翻译中公认的标准或原则 ,在实践中 ,尤其是在古诗英译中 ,做到“信”并不容易。本文从诗的四要素———情、言、声、义的角度 ,论述了在古诗英译中如何贯彻“信”的原则与方法。

On Faithfulness in Translating Classical Chinese Poetry

faithfulness (or fidelity) is an acknowledged principle in translation. However, in practice, faithfulness is difficult to achieve, especially in translating classical Chinese poetry. This paper discusses this problem from the point of view of sentiment, contents, rhythm, thematic meaning--four elements composing a poem. It stresses that all these four aspects are integrated instead of isolated or contradictory.
