从韦伯到施坚雅的中国城市研究

西方汉学界对中国城市的研究由来已久.费正清之前主要受欧洲思路的影响,费正清之后,随着"中国中心观"的兴起,美国汉学界采用了跨学科的方法,形成一套影响深远且不同于传统欧洲研究模式的体系.文章在总结比较韦伯、费正清、施坚雅等中国城市研究范式的基础上,评述它们各自的利弊得失以及各种外来理论在运用于中国本土研究时的意义与局限.

Studies on Chinese Cities: From Weber to Skinner

There is a long history for western studies on Chinese cities.Before John King Fairbank,Chinese city studies was mainly affected by European theory that was represented by Max Weber.However,a kind of new area theory formed in the field of American Chinese Studies along with the rise of China-centered approach.And after Fairbank,American Sinologist gradually formed another inter-disciplinary method that was different with the European.This paper tries to compare and conclude the advantages and disadvantages of the paradigm of Weber,Fairbank and Skinner on the basis of analyzing the importance and limitation of exertion of western theories.
