Causes of Central Asian Republics' Independence from the Soviet Union and Its Impact

This paper analyzes the main causes of Central Asian Republics' independence from the former Soviet Union by exploring the historical ties between the Central Asian Countries and Russia, the influence of the Russian Revolution of 1917 on Central Asia, the ethnic policies of the Soviet Union the emergence of ethnic separatism and the role played by religious extremists in Central Asia. The paper also gives views on the Asian Republic following their independence on their neibouring countries, Muslim countries in particular, with a view to provide reference to the ethnic problems in border areas of socialist countries.
