My Life in Shanghai by Zou Tao was the product of the combination of idealism and realistic writing, political expression and desire release. Zou＇ s experience and vision as a man of letters in the Concession influenced his expression of thoughts and ideas in My Life in Shanghai. This novel is closely related to his Shanghai experience, so that the space depicted in it is just a miniature of the life in the Concession. The story told lingers between west moral concepts and traditional ethics. The females characters revealed their moral unfitness and loss characterizing people of letters in the Concession.
