The Dilemma of Isabella——The Gender Opposition in Measure for Measure

In studying the heroine Isabella in Shakespeare's Measure for Measure from a feminist viewpoint, this author tries to argue that there are two kinds of gender relations depicted in this play, in both of which the female occupies an inferior position. Isabella's wisdom and bravery displayed in her struggle against Angelo became invisible in front of the Duke. This reflects the reality in the patriarchal society.
