University management by professors is a kind of traditional managing mode and concept.It came into being in the middle ages universities.Its basic connotation did not change all through about one thousand years, which was decided by the essence of universities,though it had different patterns and extents in different periods.The weakening and alienation of the tradition in modern times urge us to grasp its connotation,analyze its existence and legitimacy and limitation of its reform.Only by doing so can we better inherit the tradition in modern universities.
