Research Status of Ancient Towns and Villages Heritage Protection and Tourism Development

The ancient villages and towns, as an important living fossil of national cultural heritage, has become a hotspot of aca- demic research in recent years. The significance of sustainable development of the ancient villages and towns lies not only in the protection, but also in its development, which is both for local culture and natives. Therefore, the tourism often provides a path for the development of the ancient villages and towns. The experts and scholars have been conducting researches on the ancient villages and towns heritage tourism from different disciplinary perspectives, which has been promoting the process of the local cul- ture capitalization. The paper summarizes the development and the main contents of the researches on ancient villages and towns heritage tourism in recent years, and reviews the academic trend of it, intending to clarify and sort out the latest studies of ancient villages and towns heritage tourism.
