Analysis of Between–Household Heterogeneity in Disease Transmission from Data on Outbreak Sizes

Abstract:The paper proposes a method of analysis for data on within–household disease transmission, when only outbreak sizes are available. The method assumes between–household heterogeneity of the transmission probabilities. A random effects model in a hierarchical setting is fitted using MCMC and data augmentation techniques. The procedure is illustrated on a measles dataset.
